Witches Brew Cake
by Amy Manes
(Springfield, IL)
I made this cake for my daughters 18th birthday, which she has a Halloween themed party. I first began by using a dome shaped pan. It took about three cake mixes.
After they cooled I took them out of the pan, and froze them. This will make the cake easier to ice and trim.
I placed the first one down and trimmed off the bottom so it would sit one a base the put orange icing on the first layer.
Next I added the top layer and trimmed the top to form the top of the couldren.
I then iced the cake using a premade black icing, leaving the top open.
Then using just the icing bag with out a tip. I piped on the circle to form the lip of the couldren.
Then I placed it back in the freezer for about 15 minutes so the icing would set.
Using my spatula I dipped in water I smoothed it all out.
I then filled in the center with green icing using only the icing bag with out a tip. I then placed some premade body parts inside the green icing.
I piped on to handles one on each side.
Once again using the green icing. I globbed it over the sides and placed candy as if it was spilling over.
