Winter Snowman Cake
To make this snowman cake, begin by baking two cakes...one 13x9 sheet cake (body) and one 9"(hat and head). I made a template by hand to cut my cakes from.
After letting the cakes cool completely the template was placed on the sheet cake to cut out the body and the template of the the head and hat was placed on the round cake.
I placed the head and hat on the cake board butting it up against the body portion. I then crumb coated the cake and let it cool in the refrigerator.
I then smoothed orange icing over the nose and yellow icing on the cake for the scarf using a rectangular tip to create a fringe look at the tips of the scarf.
I used a hand-made template to achieve the shape of these characteristics as well. I used a star tip to decorate the rest of the cake.... white icing for the body and brown icing for the hat.
I placed a strip around the brim of the hat to add dimension. I did this by using a rectangular strip tip. I also used this tip w/ the same brown icing to make the stick arms. These were drawn directly on the cake board.
Lastly, I added two raisins for the eyes. (You can change up the colors of the scarf and the hat to go w/ different thems or color schemes...you can also use black icing w/ a circular tip to form the eyes~change it up to suit your taste.)
