White with Blue Drape Cake
by Gayla
(Kailua Kona, Hawaii)
This cake was make for a Quinceanera. The cake was strawberry with strawberry filling. I used fresh strawberry and strawberry jam and white cake with strawberry filling. I used buttercream to crumb coat the cake and covered it with white fondant.
I use store bought fondant because of the humidity here in Hawaii. Every time I try to make my own fondant it gets very sticky and it even seems to start to melt.
I made the drapes using the dowel method and it was pretty easy, I used water to hold the drape to the cake.
I used a fondant mold to make the heart shaped cover for the drape connections. I used a diamond mesh ribbon that really stood out on the cake and blue fondant pearls to border the cakes and used the same ribbon to decorated the pillars and cake stands.
I made blue bows and used white flowers and a feather boa to make the centerpieces for each tier.
In the fountain I used blue tinted water and really complemented the cake.
