Uncle Sam Hat Cake

I made 4 cakes. Each layer was a cake mix.

I made 2 chocolate and 2 yellow cakes.

I used buttercream icing. Red, white and blue.

I couldn't get the blue the shade I wanted though.

I used a 10" round for the bottom and 3 -9" rounds on top. I stacked 2 cakes and used dowels and a cardboard circle for stability. Then I placed the other 2 cakes on top.

I iced the cake in white and used a star shaped cookie cutter above the brim of the hat.

I placed the outline of the stars all the way around. I outlined them with white icing and a round tip.

I used a big knife to guide me making the stripes.
I filled everything in with star tips.

Then I did a border on top and bottom.

My niece originally wanted this for her daughters' birthday, July 4th. Then, being a girl, changed her mind. But she gave me the idea and I just had to try it!

It's bigger than I expected!!!!!

Kelly, I can hardly wait to see your next cake, they are all so cute. That one turned out nice and I thought the blue was great. Now just to wait till your next birthday cake will be fun. I just love looking at all the cakes and ideas. Keep it up, Girl,

What a great Uncle Sam's hat cake and what a great idea. Just in time for 4th of July. It looks like a lot of effort went into this cake - it looks wonderful.
