Thanksgiving Turkey Cake
by Holly
(Akron OH)
This Thanksgiving turkey cake was my first attempt at a sculpted cake. I thought it came out so cute! It is pumpkin cake with cream cheese icing. I used a giant cupcake pan and put it on it's side, then carved that out.
Fondant was tinted tan and then I rubbed brown gel food coloring on it by hand and smeared that around.
Then I took some shelf liner and laid it on the fondant to give it that grid effect. The legs were made from rice krispie treats, fondant on those as well.
The stuffing is just bits of cake chopped up, and mint to look like herbs. I used a ball tool on the lettuces, and made the cranberries out of fondant too.
It was so much fun, people thought it was the real turkey!
