Stunning Barbie Princess Doll Birthday Cake
by Karen Bradley
(Watlington, Oxfordshire)
I made this fab Barbie Princess Birthday cake for a 5-year-old little girl, she is going to love it!!
I started this cake by making two seven-inch by four-inch deep sponge cakes, I also used a glass Pyrex dish to bake a sponge cake in and this bit was used to make the dome effect.
Before putting the cakes together I had to make a hole through the middle of each of them so that I could put the Barbie doll in once the cakes were put together. (To do this I used the inner cardboard tube from my paper kitchen towel, as I did not have a cutter that would be suitable for this job). Once this was done the cakes were put on top of each other with a fluffy buttercream and jam filling in between each layer.
Once the cake had been covered in a crumb coating I then made 6 long rolled pieces of fondant and placed these around the cake. These will help give the skirt pleats once the icing is placed onto the cake. The pink fondant was then placed over the cake, then a hole was made at the top and Barbie was placed into position.
I brought the Barbie Ballerina doll and did not have to decorate this as the bodice of the doll was already decorated pink.
Gerbera Daisy fondant flowers where used to decorate the skirt.
The overall effect is stunning and the little girl will be very pleased with this creation.
