Stop Bleeding Icing

by Linda

What can I use to stop pink buttercream icing from bleeding into the cupcake? Is there a barrier I could use? Thanks Linda

Bleeding Buttercream
by: Nanajane

I have never had a frosting bleed so it must be the buttercream recipe I use. I will share.

1 Cup vegetable shortening
1/2 butter (unsalted)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon of another flavoring ie: almond, lemon, coconut, orange, strawberry, etc
1/4 milk or water ( I always use milk) I always end up adding another tablespoon or two to get to right consistency.
1 pinch of salt
1 teaspoon meringue powder
2 pounds (8 cups) sifted powdered sugar.

Mix shortening and butter till well blended. (medium speed)
Add milk and flavorings, once blended turn mixer off.
Add salt, meringue and sugar. Turn mixer on lowest speed and mix until all come together. Turn to medium speed and mix for 2-5 min until smooth.
If the mixer is straining, your frosting is too thick, add a little more milk. If you add to much and it gets too soft, add a little more sugar.
GOOD LUCK!
