Spongebob Squarepants Birthday Cake
by Jasmine Tarrant
(Brisbane, Australia)
For this Spongebob Squarepants birthday cake, I just made 2 cakes in a 18cm cake tin, from packet mixes the night before the party, placed on a tray and covered with glad wrap then into the fridge.
The next morning, I kneaded part of the ready made icing (its abit like marzapan) on a lightly icing sugared surface and added a few drops of yellow food coloring whilst I kneaded, when the food coloring was completely mixed through I rolled the icing out until I knew it would cover just one of the square cakes.
Place the icing on top of the cake, and cut the excess off around the bottom, fold icing around the corners neatly.
With the other cake, cut it in half and only use one bit...put the cut side on the bottom of the iced cake.
With another bit off icing knead again, and leave white, cut into a long rectangle and place it on the top part of the cut cake, cut of any excess again.
Then make eyes with kneaded icing, leaving white roll into a ball and flatten it with your hands.
With a little of kneaded icing add blue drop of food coloring to icing and mix with hands until combined, for the eye color part.
Then with more icing add pillar box red food coloring and do the same as above for the tie.
Also with left over yellow icing, roll into little balls for the cheeks and nose, and left over white icing roll little balls for the teeth.
With your knuckle make sponge hole indents into the icing, then with your finger dip into yellow food coloring and rub indents to darken them a little.
For the pants I used chocolate frosting and I used a black icing pen for all of the out lining of Spongebob. And I cut 2 pieces of licorice in half to make his belt.
