Spiderman Cake - Climbing Wall
by Sue Foulsham
(Gosport , Hampshire, UK)
The cake for this Spiderman cake was made using a 2 x 6 eggs madeira cake mix which was baked in two 8x10 cake tins, the cake was then trimmed and leveled then placed on a spare cake board. I then sandwiched together the cakes with butter cream and jam.
The Spiderman was made from marzipan which I then placed on top of the cake to one side. I then put a strip of marzipan down the left side of Spiderman and made bricks indentations so it would look like Spiderman was climbing the wall.
I then covered the cake in a layer of butter cream and then covered the cake in ready to roll icing which was then moved around and trimmed.
At this stage, I transferred the cake to another cake board. I then moved around the Spiderman so his shape would come though the icing. When the icing had dried I colored in the Spiderman with my edible color pens.
When he was dry, I then colored in the brick work on top and down the side of the cake. The last part to do on the cake was to draw in the buildings going around the sides and color them in.
I left the cake to dry for a day so. I could then color in the sky and piped a shell border going around the cake in blue icing
