Sculptured Realistic Dog Cake
by Casey Hayes
(Tallulah, La USA)
To make this sculptured dog cake, I started with round cakes stacked and filled. Then I froze it. When it became firm enough to cut... I carved out the shape of the body of the dog.
The hind legs and feet are cake scraps I arranged for the form I needed. I covered all with icing and put in the freezer again to firm back up. I prepared marshmallow fondant and rolled out and covered the body of the dog.
I formed the head out of rice crispy treats and covered with fondant. You could also use styrofoam although it would not be edible.
The black spots are from black fondant but could be painted on with edible food colors. The tongue is a piece of an air head candy.
I attached the head with a dowel rod.
The tail and bone are completely made up of fondant. It was lots of fun to do. It looks more complicated than it really is. There is a great youtube video about making a dog out of cake by confetti cakes. I went by this video.
Thanks for looking and good luck!!!
