Realistic Turkey Cake

This cake was so fun to make! It was trying, figuring out how to structure this cake. I ended up using an old Wilton cake tier set and thin columns, believe it or not! Crazy, right? It was the perfect amount of support for the heavy cake and gave me an easy way to do the legs and feet. Nowadays I would use a commercially produced structure. They are so easy to work with.
I made the turkey's head out of RKT and made the details with colored fondant and pigments. I made a glaze with corn syrup and vodka heated in the microwave. The beard is made of finely rolled fondant made into a tassel.
The body's just cake and frosting, folks. Covered in fondant.
The tail and wings are pieces of cake board frosted and decorated with fondant and details added.
The legs were made with some RKT at the top covered in chocolate and feet were done with fondant with cmc added and painted after
It took me ALL NIGHT to finish this cake. I didn't sleep. It was still super fun to make and I share him every Thanksgiving.
I am also the creator of the Unicorn cake in the gallery of the 25 best cakes. I'm remarried so my last name is different now. Thanks for looking at my good friend, the Gobbler!
