Princess Castle 1st Birthday Cake
by Debbie Thomason
(Mansfield, MO USA)
I started the Princess Castle Cake by making two each 9" round yellow cakes. I stacked the cakes by using butter cream frosting in between them to add taste to the cake but also to give the castle additional height.
I then frosted the entire cake to a satin smooth finish and added the White Dot Trim to the top of the cake, and pink shell design at the bottom.
The towers for the castle are made out of Rice Krispy Treats and then wrapped in fondant. Two of the towers were placed on top of the cake at different levels. The other two towers were attached to the cake with white buttercream frosting.
The tower tops are sugar ice cream cones decorated with pink butter cream frosting.
I hand cut all the fondant doors, windows and shutters on the castle and the towers and glued them to the cake with light corn syrup then adorned the entire castle and towers with pink and purple fondant pressed flowers.
I added shrubbery to the side of the fondant steps, and flower vines with Green butter cream frosting and finished the cake with some pink flowers in the shrubbery.
This cake was done for my grand-daughter Haylee's 1st Birthday ~ it was a huge hit at her party.
