Power Puff Girls Birthday Cake

This Power Puff Girls birthday cake was for my friends' 90's-themed birthday party. They both love the Power Puff Girls! The colored frosting is all homemade buttercream (except I purchased the black and the red because it's very hard to make those colors).
First I looked online and found a piece of clipart from the cartoon that I liked. I printed it out in reverse on my printer. I taped the printout down onto a cutting board, and then taped a piece of wax paper down on top of that. Then I traced the picture. I had to put the things that go in front down first (the pupil of the eye before the white of the eye, etc.), so I started with the black outlining, and then filled in the other colors. Then I carefully smoothed the back down with a spatula to make it flat and even.
I put the whole thing, cutting board and all, into the freezer for about an hour.
Meanwhile, I iced the cake with chocolate buttercream. When the design was nice and frozen, I carefully flipped it onto the cake. The reversed picture comes out forward when you do this.
I then touched up the picture a bit by adding more icing to the girls' eyes and an extra border on the heart. This helps give the picture more dimension, since it comes out totally flat after being on the flat cutting board.
Next I added the lettering, and then the border on the top and bottom edges of the cake.
This involved a lot of small amounts of various colors, and it was a complicated design. It took a long time to make, but it was a lot of fun and my friends absolutely LOVED it!
