Pooh & Friends Choo Choo Train
by Amutha
(Acton MA)
This was made for my daughters first birthday. She loves trains including Thomas the train. But I did not want to make it too boyish, so I added Pooh and friends to the train as she loves them too, and it adds a baby theme to it.
I made the engine using a rectangular base butter cake, with another rectangular piece upright behind it. For the cylindrical piece, I cut out two circles and stuck them all together using butter icing. I used butter icing to top it all round. I made a small triangular addition to the front of the train to make it look more real.
For the two compartments, I just used square bases and topped it with butter icing again. I filled one with chocolate Jimmys and the other with green colored sugar to give the feel of sand/chips and grass.
The whole theme was yellow and red (Poohs colors), so I made the engine yellow and the compartments red.
I cut pieces of black liquorice Twizzlers and patched them around the train to look like a railway track. I used Oreo cookies for the wheels, Kit Kat sticks to join the compartments, chocolate kisses for the chimney, Hershey's for the window. I threw in some dark and caramel chocolate chips around the railway tracks to resembles rocks. I made some grass out of green butter icing on one side and the other side of the track had a patch of blue butter icing in the middle of the grass made to look like a pond.
I made Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Eeyore out of fondant, colored and painted to match plastic characters that we had. I placed Pooh (with his 'hunny' pot also mad of fondant) and piglet in the first compartment, and Tigger (in lazy snooze pose) and Eeyore in the second compartment.
I did not get time to make the other characters (owl, kanga, roo, etc) out of fondant, so I used the plastic ones and placed them on the outside of the railway lines.
I made a fondant sign 'hundred acre woods' to label the whole area and put a smiley face on the front of the train. The letters are all cut out of fondant, finally got a pooh & friends candle to top it up.
