Pokemon Critter Cake

This cake is either a Pokeman critter or a Japanese Anime critter. I must admit that I'm not exactly sure what kind of creature this cake represents. All I know is that a birthday was coming and I was given a drawing of how the cake had to be!

I'm a full-time working mother but my boys only like homemade cakes so no bakery cakes for them. I don't have any cake molds or fancy equipment so I improvise and make the cakes they want.

This creature was pink with red feet and had black antenna. So, I began with two 8-inch round layers and two cupcakes. I simply made butter cream frosting and stacked the layers and covered the whole thing with pink-tinted icing.

For the feet, I added a bit more food color and - voila - red feet! The eyes and smile are made of chocolate chips - very pixel-like - and the antenna are licorice strips curled into the right shape.

It was a hit and the other kids seemed to know right away what it was. Oh, to be young again!
