Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake
by Alina Edwards

I made this cake for a friend of mine's granddaughter. I made a 1/2 sheet cake for the base and then a baking bowl for the clubhouse.
I iced both cakes, and applied white homemade marshmallow fondant to the clubhouse "dome" cake. Then I used a cake paint brush and "painted" it with bright red food coloring. I let it sit before putting on the sheet cake.It was taking forever to get the grass the green color I wanted for the base, so I let the pastel green frosting sit on the cake in the fridge and once set, I "painted" over the top with green (powdered) food coloring. It worked better. The slide hand and foot are all fondant and I painted them with food coloring (it takes much less time than kneading color into each part of the fondant.)
I let them sit and then applied to the cake. Mickey Mouse's head on top is a rice krispy treat covered in fondant. I "painted" it black with food coloring. (rice krispy treat is less weight than pure fondant. I secured in place all the way down with dowels (small). I then piped the "grass" and flowers (gel color), the yellow border, added the stones (fondant), store bought letters and the candles, and Mickey of course, and I was done!
It survived a 1 1/2 hour car ride and was a hit at the party.
