Layla's Butterfly Cake
by Juanita Annis
(Nictaux, Canada)
For this butterfly cake, I made one 9x13 buttercake and cut it in half; I left top and bottom pieces together and shaped the wings, then flipped the top layer over so the wings were sitting side by side.
I made a small cake and cut the body out; and used a cupcake for the head. I used buttercream icing and put a layer on the cakes then outlined the pattern on the wings and used buttercream and tip #7 to decorate the whole cake.
The eyes, antenna, legs and arms are made of fondant. Whatever colours I thought would look good, I used them. It was a great hit and I now have a few orders for some more cakes for next year's birthdays. It was soooo much fun to make.
