Lauren's Purse Cake
by Kelly Little
(VanBuren, Arkansas, USA)
To make this purse cake, I baked a 9" x 13" cake and cut it into 3 pieces the same size.
Later I realized I could have used my small oval pans and I wouldn't have had to trim the cake!
The first time is always a learning experience.
I made some fondant thanks Nancy for the recipe and patience talking me through it! and covered the entire cake. boy do I need practice on that!!!!!!
I cut the pieces of the purse out of fondant that I colored brown. I used little pearl colored edible beads Not a clue what they're called, I can't get the gold or silver ones around here and put along the trim of the purse.
I bought a new pattern tracing wheel and used it on the fondant to make the 'stitches'. It worked wonderfully.
I also iced the cake in buttercream before I applied the fondant.
