Hello Kitty Carved Cake
by Natasha Vaughn
(Alexandria, TN)
For this cake I baked one 10 inch round cake and five 8 inch round cakes. I stacked all the cakes adding a cake circle halfway down and carved them out into the shape I wanted for Hello Kitty's body.
I added some more cake pieces for her feet. I put in straws for support into the body to support the head. I iced the body with a thin coat of buttercram and then covered it with marshmallow fondant.
I added the dress also of marshmallow fondant and flowers cut out of gumpaste using a small flower cutter.
For Hello Kitty's head I formed the shape from warmed rice krispy treats including the ears. I let the head harden for a couple of days. I then covered it with a thin coat of buttercream and marshmallow fondant.
For the eyes and nose I used marshmallow fondant. The whiskers are toothpicks that I painted with black color gel. Her bow was formed with a gumpaste fondant mixture.
I stabilized the entire cake with a long dowel rod pushed all the way through the head and the body.
