Graveyard Cake
by Damie Oliver
(Windsor, Ontario, Canada)
To make this graveyard cake, I made a two layer sheet cake and iced with green buttercream. The pumpkins and tombstones were made with gumpaste/fondant. For the pumpkins I simply rolled orange fondant into a pumpkin shape and used a toothpick to give them the pumpkin texture (lines), the stems were made of small pieces of green fonant.
The tombstone were cut out of marbled gray gumpate/fondant. After they dried, I wrote on the with edible marker.
The arches are made out of rice crispy treats covered with gray fondant(with small dowels for support). I intentionally covered the arches kind of sloppy to try and give them a worn stone texture. I cut small holes into the cake where they went in (for extra support).
The dirt trail is crushed up gram crackers and chocolate waffers. I then finished it off with few tuffs of grass (with the Wilton "grass" tip).
