Fish Birthday Cake
My nephew, Matthew, loves to fish at his Omi's (grandmother's) house by the beach so I had to make a fish cake for his seventh birthday party!
I began by making a rectangular chocolate mocha cake with ganache filling. I frosted the cake with blue tinted buttercream frosting the color of water.
I made a yellow cake and baked it in a plastic fish pan. Then I tinted white chocolate a grayish color and spread it into the same plastic fish mold. I chilled it and carefully turned it over and placed it on top of the baked fish cake. I filled in the spaces with gray tinted buttercream frosting.
Around the edges of the rectangular cake I placed multi-colored homemade fish sugar cookies! Sparkler candles were placed on top of the cake for the birthday celebration! (All of the six and seven year olds at the party wanted to touch the fish cake because they thought that it looked so realistic!)
