Elephant Christening Cake
by Kelly
(Alvechurch)
I made this Christening cake for my cousins they both had babies 12 days apart and decided to have a joint christening, i thought that this cake would be a great gift for them both.
Firstly I baked 2 9" madeira cakes and 2 7" madeira cakes. I then cut the cakes in half and leveled them off. i then stacked the 4 pieces of 9" cake using butter icing to glue them together and then did the same with the 7" pieces. I then iced both sized cakes with ready to roll icing.
I then placed straws in the larger cake to act as support for the second tier. I then used butter icing to stick the two tiers together. to cover any imperfections on the join of the two tiers I used blue and pink ribbon.
I then decorated the cake with small foot prints and flowers. I also covered the cake board on which I wrote the names with icing.
The elephants were made of flower paste and I used royal icing as glue to fix all the bits together. I purchased the booties from a local cake decorating shop and thought they made a lovely addition to the cake as well as being lovely keepsakes for the children.
