Cowboy Cake
by Shawndra
(Goodyear, AZ)
This cowboy cake was for a little boy's 1st birthday, his name is Stetson after the Stetson Cowboy hat so you KNOW he was going to have a cowboy birthday!
I baked a 6" two layer cake and a 10" two layer cake.
I dirty iced the bottom tier with white buttercream and the top tier with blue buttercream (tried to get the blue as close to bluejeans as I could)
I put it in the fridge for about an hour.
In the meantime I cut out the sheriffs star from gold tinted fondant using a large star fondant cutter. I wrote Bubba for Sheriff with black buttercream. (Bubba is his nickname)
I also cut out a large and medium oval from fondant that I tinted a light grey color to look silver. I put a small oval on the large one, and wrote Happy Birthday with black buttercream.
Take the 2 tiers out of the fridge and stack them. Then I put another coat of blue buttercream on top tier and white on bottom.
I then cut the cow prints from black fondant using a fondant cutter and placed them all over the bottom tier with water.
I cut the belt from brown fondant 1 1/2" wide and placed around the base of top tier for the belt. I cut another piece and rounded one end and placed it to hang off a little for the belt's end. Put belt buckle on.
I made the handkerchief by rolling out red fondant and placing on the top hanging off the side. Then I took black and white buttercream and decorated the handkerchief.
I made the cowboy hat from sculpting brown fondant a few days ahead of time. To get the bill of the hat curved up and took a big circle piece of brown and lifted the sides and had them sit against a cup on each side for a couple days to dry that way. Put the hat on top half against the cake and half on top of the hanky.
Place the star on the bottom tier and white buttercream border on the bottom and tah dah!
