Confetti Bunny Cake

This bunny cake was for my son's fourth birthday. My youngest son latched onto a stuffed bunny when he was just 6 months old and soon everything HAD TO BE about a bunny.
My sons like my homemade cakes so no bakery cakes for us! I don't have any special cake molds or tools so we rely on creativity.
For Confetti Bunny, I baked a yellow layer cake in a 9 x 13-inch cake pan. After it cooled, I cut out the outline of the bunny in a crouched pose. With the cake that was cut away, I shaped two ears.
I made butter cream frosting and covered the whole cake. I kept out just a bit (about 2 tablespoons) and colored it black for whiskers and leg definition. Next, I attached the ears and decorated their delicate insides with pink sugar. The eye and nose were also formed with pink sugar and then the black whiskers and leg outline were added.
The confetti was my 4-year-old's idea. I personally think that sprinkles taste like buckshot added to a cake but it was his birthday. We did manage to keep them to a reasonable amount.
It just proves that a cake made with love and imagination is the best one!
