Chris's Crochet Cake
by Kelly Little
(Van Buren , Arkansas USA)
To make this crochet cake, I used the sports ball pan and 1 cake mix and baked according to directions.
After it cooled completely I trimmed off a small piece of ball so it would sit flat and not roll. I iced between layers with buttercream and put cake on cake board.
I put a base layer of icing on ball shape. Then I used a round tip size 12 and started at the top and went round and round until cake was mostly covered. Then I added another long string from bottom to top and ended the string with Happy birthday Nana... at least it was supposed to look like the words were out of the yarn.
Then I put some crochet hooks around it.
I saw one done with fondant and it looked better than mine, but I just like buttercream better!
