Barrel Racing Buckle Cake
by Rochelle Holliday
(Poplarville, MS)
I baked a 10 x 14 rectangle cake and a 8 inch round cake. I used the round cake to create the round bumps on each side of the cake. I printed a picture given to me by the customer on edible rice paper with edible ink. You can have this done for you at most bakeries for around $10.00.
I iced the cake with white butter cream icing then I applied the picture to the area I wanted it and I air brushed the icing black around the picture.
I covered the picture with a piece of wax paper to prevent overspray from getting on the picture. The paint was actually liquid food coloring used in an airbrush machine.
I then piped the scroll designs and flowers on the cake and airbrushed it with gold food coloring.
I piped the NBHA logo on top of the cake in red and used the glitter gel for the rhinestone in the center of the flower.
Anyone who is familiar with rodeo belt buckles would recognize this design. It was fun to create and all it takes is a little imagination. All the airbrushing can be substituted with died icing and piped onto the cake.
