Alligator Skin Handbag
by Mildred Delgado
(Milledgeville, GA)
I made this "alligator skin" handbag with two 10" circular cake pans. It is vanilla flavor. I cut the top and the bottom giving them the purse shape. I iced filled them with butter cream and they "glued" together.
I covered the cake with butter cream icing. I used an alligator skin impression mat and applied to mark the fondant.
I covered the back side first, then the front, then the sides. I made the flap on the front and placed it. I made a very thin border and placed it around it. I airbrushed it with silver sheen color.
I made the front button out of gum paste and a tooth pick. The handle, I gave it sort of a free handed bamboo looking style . I did this a week ahead, let it dry and painted it gold and bronze.
I covered the bottom with thin pieces of ruffled black fondant mimicking fabric . I put a tassel on the top of the side of the handle. I added some pieces of ribbon for additional decoration.
