3D Baby Cake
by Miriam Rothstein

For this 3D baby cake, I baked a 10", and an 8" chocolate cakes. I froze the largest one to make it easier to sculpt the two arms and little ears from it. I filled the cakes with chocolate Italian Buttercream and sealed the crumbs with light consistency buttercream. I placed the small cake over the top of the big one. I used the same procedure with the arms. I glued them together with buttercream.
Next, I colored icing with skin tone using peach color with a hint of brown. I iced the whole cake in tan colored buttercream and smoothed it with Viva paper towels.
I positioned the towel over the cake and smoothly rubbed over it. (For this process the cake should be refrigerated for five minutes to harden a little bit. Using white buttercream, I covered the bottom part to create the diaper. I then used the same smoothing procedure.
I piped the eyes, smile and a curl over his forehead using black icing (bought at the supermarket in a tube). Using a foot shaped cookie cutter marked his feet and traced them with the same buttercream used for the whole body.
To accent his face, I placed three dots of light brown icing to create his nose and the corners of the smile.
